Task Initiation

Task Initiation is the ability to begin a task in a timely fashion, without procrastination, children that struggle in this area WANT to begin task, but they have trouble getting started.  If kids struggle with task initiation, you might notice things like:
  • They need many reminders to begin an over-learned task (empty the dishwasher, brush teeth, get out pencil and paper, etc…)
  • They wait for other students to begin in group activities before joining in
  • When one task is completed they don’t move on to the next, or don’t look like they know what to do next.

In order to support your child with Task Initiation you may need to use a timer and visual checklist.

In addition to a timer on your phone, this is a timer you can use on a device.  https://www.timeanddate.com/timer/
